DENPASAR – Udayana University hosted a visit from the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) to introduce the latest digital broadcasting technology innovations: Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV) and DVB-I (Digital Video Broadcasting – Interactive). The event took place on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Udayana University Postgraduate Building.

During the meeting with Udayana University (Unud) leadership, Komdigi representatives and the Directorate of Postal and Broadcasting team explained that the post-Analog Switch-Off (ASO) digital broadcasting era is evolving toward interactive broadcasting. Through HbbTV technology, television is transformed from a one-way communication medium into an interactive, two-way platform that bridges linear broadcast content with broadband (internet) services.
A key breakthrough resulting from the implementation of HbbTV is the growth of Television Commerce (T-Commerce) potential. TV viewers can interact directly with broadcast content—such as purchasing products from local MSMEs directly via the TV screen—by using the “red button” on their remote controls or scanning QR codes. This service has already been piloted on the TVRI channel, engaging hundreds of local MSMEs.
This collaboration between the Ministry of Komdigi and the Udayana University academic community is expected to serve not only as a showcase for cutting-edge broadcasting technology but also as a pivotal moment to foster young innovators from Bali who are ready to strengthen the national digital economy ecosystem on the global stage.
