JIMBARAN – Udayana University (Unud) is serving as the local host for the IEEE Region 10 Conference (TENCON) 2026, which officially opened on Sunday (October 11, 2026) at the InterContinental Bali Resort in Jimbaran, Bali. Centered on the theme “Intelligent Systems for Resilient and Sustainable Society,” this international technology conference serves as a platform for academics, researchers, engineers, and practitioners to exchange knowledge and strengthen collaboration in the development of sustainable technology.

Representing the Rector of Udayana University, the Vice Rector for Research, Innovation, and Commercialization, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya, S.P., M.A.A.G.B., expressed appreciation for the trust placed in Unud by IEEE Region 10 and the IEEE Indonesia Section to host the conference. He noted that the involvement of faculty members and students in the organizing committee demonstrates the academic community’s contribution to supporting this international scientific forum.
“Udayana University is very proud to be the local host for TENCON 2026. Many of our faculty members have worked hard on the organizing committee, alongside student volunteers from the IEEE Student Branch at Udayana who have contributed their best efforts. This collaboration showcases the strength and unity of the IEEE community in this region,” said Prof. Alit Susanta Wirya.

He added that the conference theme aligns with the Tri Hita Karana philosophy, which forms the foundation of life for the Balinese people. This philosophy emphasizes the importance of maintaining harmonious relationships among people, with nature, and with God. These values resonate with technology development that is not merely oriented toward progress but also prioritizes environmental sustainability and human well-being. “In Bali, we have a local philosophy known as Tri Hita Karana. This philosophy teaches us to maintain a balanced and harmonious life with fellow human beings, nature, and God. We believe technology should operate in the same way—it should support human life while ensuring the safety of our environment,” he stated.
The hosting of TENCON 2026 coincides with a pivotal moment in Udayana University’s transformation into a State University with Legal Entity status (PTN-BH), effective September 1, 2026. This change in status is part of an effort to strengthen university autonomy, accompanied by a responsibility to enhance the quality of education, research, innovation, and international partnerships.

TENCON 2026 General Chair Prof. Wahyudi Hasbi noted that the conference serves as a vital platform for the international technology community to exchange knowledge and foster cross-disciplinary and cross-border collaborations. He hopes the gathering will benefit professional networking and scientific cooperation.
“As IEEE Region 10’s flagship technical conference, TENCON serves as a crucial platform for researchers, engineers, professionals, academics, students, and technology leaders to exchange knowledge and build collaborations across disciplines and national borders. We hope this conference yields valuable insights, meaningful professional connections, productive collaborations, and unforgettable experiences,” said Prof. Wahyudi Hasbi.

Meanwhile, IEEE Indonesia Section Chair Prof. Kurnianingsih stated that TENCON 2026 marks the conference’s return to Indonesia, following its last hosting in the country in 2011. She hopes the event will strengthen ties within the scientific community and open up new opportunities for collaboration in technology and innovation. “Indonesia first hosted TENCON in 2011. Now, 15 years later, we are proud to welcome the international IEEE community back to our country. Reflecting our motto—‘Unity in Diversity, Bridging Cultures, Empowering Innovation’—the diversity of backgrounds and perspectives here creates tremendous opportunities for mutual learning and collaboration,” said Prof. Kurnianingsih.

Appreciation for the hosting of TENCON 2026 was also expressed by the IEEE Region 10 Director, Prof. Takako Hashimoto. She highlighted the interdisciplinary nature of the conference theme, which requires contributions from various scientific fields, and commended the support provided by Udayana University and the organizing committee in Indonesia.
“The topics for this TENCON are truly remarkable; they are interdisciplinary in nature and cannot be addressed by a single technical field alone. I extend my deepest gratitude to Udayana University and the organizing team in Indonesia for their extraordinary efforts in staging this major event. I encourage all participants to engage actively in discussions, get to know one another, and forge new connections and friendships here,” said Prof. Takako Hashimoto.
The opening of TENCON 2026 was marked by an activation button ceremony and a cake-cutting event commemorating IEEE Day 2026. The event was attended by IEEE representatives and the organizing committee, including Dr. Andrew Delorey, IEEE MGA Vice President, and Prof. Sameer, IEEE Region 10 Director-Elect.
Udayana University’s role as the host of TENCON 2026 reflects its commitment to strengthening international recognition, expanding partnership networks, and fostering the sustainable development of science and technology. Through this forum, the university facilitates collaboration between higher education institutions and the international scientific community to generate innovations that create a positive impact on society.
