Sayan Village Development Group, Faculty of Law, Udayana University, Creates an Impactful Campus Through Preserving the Laban Godel Tradition

As a concrete implementation of the Impactful Campus program, the Sayan Village Development Group 2026 of the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on the Traditional Cultural Expression (EBT) of the Laban Godel Tradition on Saturday, May 24, 2026, in the Sayan Village Office Hall, Ubud.

This activity demonstrates the university’s concrete contribution to assisting the community in maintaining, protecting, and strengthening local cultural identity through academic and legal approaches. Through this FGD, the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, is pushing for the official registration of the Laban Godel Tradition as a Traditional Cultural Expression to obtain state protection and recognition for the cultural heritage of the Sayan Village community.

The FGD was attended by approximately 30 participants, consisting of community leaders, village officials, and local indigenous people. The discussion was lively and interactive, demonstrating a shared concern for the sustainability of the Laban Godel Tradition, which holds religious, historical, and socio-cultural value for the Sayan Village community.

The event featured speakers from academia and relevant stakeholders, including Prof. Dr. Ni Ketut Supasti Dharmawan, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., and Putu Aras Samsithawrati, S.H., LL.M., lecturers at the Faculty of Law, Udayana University. Also in attendance were Putu Edi Wahyudi, A.Md., S.Kom., M.H., a representative from the Bali Regional Office of the Ministry of Law, and I Nyoman Mudita, S.T., M.AP, a representative from the Regional Research and Innovation Agency (BRIDA) of Gianyar Regency.

This forum provided the community with an understanding of the importance of inventorying, documenting, and legally protecting Traditional Cultural Expressions as part of communal intellectual property. Furthermore, this activity served as a means of collecting data and information related to the Laban Godel Tradition, which will be used in the official registration process as a regional cultural heritage.

Through the Bina Desa program, Udayana University continues to strengthen its role as a campus that not only focuses on education and research, but also provides a direct impact on society through cultural preservation, community empowerment, and strengthening local Balinese values.
