Denpasar – The Faculty of Law of Udayana University successfully held ULTIMATE-SDGs 2026: Udayana Law & Tourism Impact for the SDGs – International Conference and Call for Papers on Law, Tourism, and Sustainable Development on August 1–2, 2026. This event served as a platform for international academic collaboration, bringing together academics, practitioners, researchers, and policymakers from various countries.
The Chair of the Organizing Committee, Prof. I Gusti Ngurah Parikesit Widiatedja, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M., Ph.D., in his remarks stated that the conference was held as a strategic forum to foster global dialogue in addressing sustainable development challenges through the perspectives of law and tourism. He emphasized that this activity aims “to establish an international academic forum that brings together academics, practitioners, policymakers, and students to exchange ideas and formulate innovative legal solutions to support the achievement of the SDGs.”
Furthermore, Prof. Parikesit Widiatedja also highlighted the high enthusiasm of international participants. Fifty scientific papers were received from six countries: Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Timor-Leste. This demonstrates that issues of law, tourism, and sustainable development have global relevance and open up opportunities for cross-border collaboration.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Putu Gede Arya Sumerta Yasa, S.H., M.Hum., in his remarks stated that the world currently faces various complex global challenges, such as climate change, social inequality, and economic uncertainty. Therefore, cross-sector and cross-national collaboration is necessary. He emphasized that “these challenges cannot be solved by one country or one institution alone; therefore, cooperation, innovative ideas, and strong partnerships are necessary.”
The Dean also emphasized the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a shared direction for achieving sustainable development. He stated that the SDGs serve as a guideline for balancing economic growth, environmental protection, and social justice for present and future generations.
Over the two days, the conference featured a variety of activities, including keynote lectures and panel discussions, as well as parallel sessions discussing the five main focuses of the SDGs: zero poverty, quality education, decent work and economic growth, responsible consumption and production, and global partnerships.
The conference also exemplifies the Faculty of Law, Udayana University,’s commitment to strengthening international networks and improving the quality of education, research, and community service. Furthermore, this activity is expected to foster research collaborations, scientific publications, and sustainable academic exchanges.
With the ULTIMATE-SDGs 2026, the Faculty of Law, Udayana University, affirms its role as an institution actively contributing to the development of legal science and supporting the achievement of sustainable development goals at the global level.
