The Faculty of Agriculture at Udayana University held the 2026 Workshop of the Indonesian Agricultural Universities Communication Forum (FKPTPI) for the Eastern Region on Thursday (July 23, 2026) at The Patra Bali Resort. The meeting raised the theme “Integrating Agriculture with Tourism to Support SDG 1: No Poverty” and SDG 17: Partnerships to Achieve Goals.
I Putu Sudiarta, S.P., M.Si., Ph.D., Chair of the FKPTI Eastern Region and Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture at Udayana University, explained that the event, held from July 22-24, 2026, included workshops, deans’ and association forums, and community service in the Kintamani Bangli area. The event also included various student competitions, such as a business plan competition, poster competition, photography competition, and essay competition. He further explained that the activity involved 140 participants from 31 universities from Aceh to Papua, including Hasanuddin University, Nusa Cendana University, Halu Oleo University, Sam Ratulangi University, Musamus University, and others.
Meanwhile, Udayana University’s Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Ir. I Nengah Sujaya, M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D., explained that integrating agriculture with tourism can open up various new economic opportunities through the development of agrotourism, diversification of agricultural businesses, strengthening agriculture-based MSMEs, downstreaming agricultural products, developing the creative economy, and empowering rural communities. These opportunities allow communities to benefit not only from agricultural production but also from services, tourism experiences, education, and various other economic activities based on local potential.
The Vice Rector added that to achieve this, strong collaboration is needed between universities, the government, the business world, community groups, research institutions, and professional organizations. In line with this, he emphasized that Udayana University views this collaboration as a step to accelerate the transformation of the agricultural sector towards modern and sustainable agriculture, while still preserving local wisdom as the nation’s identity.
Bali Governor Wayan Koster, who also attended the event, stated that the Bali Provincial Government has several policies to support the integration of agriculture and tourism. These include developing organic farming systems, preserving the subak (subak) as Bali’s agricultural irrigation system, developing appropriate agricultural technology, developing agricultural product processing industries, expanding market access for local Balinese agricultural products, and more. Koster emphasized that the direction of these policies and regulations is to realize culture-based, dignified, and sustainable tourism.
FKPTPI (Fellowship Forum for Agricultural Sciences) is an organization that accommodates the leaders of faculties and study programs in the field of agriculture, aiming to improve the quality of education, research, and the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. The eastern region of FKPTPI covers Central and East Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara, parts of Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, and Papua.
