JIMBARAN – Udayana University served as the venue for the “Jago Bangunan” (Construction Expert) training and certification program. Organized by PT Semen Gresik in collaboration with the Professional Certification Institute (LSP) under the auspices of the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP)—and supported by the Regional Construction Services Center (BJKW) IV Surabaya (Ministry of Public Works)—the event took place at the Faculty of Engineering, Udayana University, Jimbaran Campus, Bali, on Friday (September 25, 2026).
The event was attended by the Rector of Udayana University, represented on this occasion by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Information, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Made Sucipta, ST, MT, IPM. Also present were the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Udayana University, the Head of BJKW IV Surabaya, the Head of the Construction Services Empowerment Section of the Bali Province Public Works and Housing Agency (PURKIM), PT Semen Gresik’s General Manager of Sales and General Manager of Marketing, management personnel (including SSM, ASM, and TSO roles), construction workers from the Bali region, and other invited guests.
The event was officially opened by the President Director of PT Semen Gresik, Gatot Mardiana, marked by the ceremonial fitting of safety helmets onto four training participant representatives.
In his remarks, Udayana University Vice Rector Prof. Made Sucipta emphasized that quality construction requires not only high-quality materials but also a competent and professional workforce.
According to him, the training and certification of construction workers play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of human resources within the construction sector. Through this program, participants not only gain knowledge and skills but also secure the opportunity to test and validate their competencies through the certification process. “Quality construction requires not only good materials but also a competent and professional workforce. Therefore, training and certification initiatives like this are crucial,” he said.
Prof. Sucipta stated that Udayana University views this activity as a tangible form of collaboration among higher education institutions, the industrial sector, the government, and professional bodies. He hopes that similar partnerships can be further developed across various fields to deliver broader benefits to the community.
Meanwhile, I Made Sukadi, Head of the Construction Services Empowerment Section at the Bali Province Public Works, Housing, and Settlement Agency (PURKIM), noted that quality infrastructure development is not determined solely by the availability of materials and technology but relies heavily on the competence of the construction workforce.
“For this reason, today’s certification assessment is of great importance. The certificate received later is not merely a piece of paper or a document; it represents official recognition of competence, professionalism, and verifiable skill standards,” Sukadi said.
He urged participants to make the most of this opportunity and to undergo all stages of the assessment with diligence and discipline. Occupational Health and Safety (K3) aspects must also remain a top priority throughout the training process and during fieldwork.
On the same occasion, Indra Sulistyo, Head of the Construction Services Development Center (BJKW) Region IV Surabaya, expressed his appreciation to PT Semen Gresik and Udayana University for facilitating and collaborating on this initiative to enhance the competence and certification of the construction workforce.
According to Indra, the involvement of various parties in this activity demonstrates a shared commitment to developing a construction workforce that is competent, professional, and certified.
He emphasized the importance of competency certification for construction workers. In accordance with Law Number 2 of 2017 concerning Construction Services, construction workers are required to hold a competency certificate, and service users are obligated to employ certified workers in compliance with applicable regulations.
“With this certification, Indonesian construction workers are expected to be ready and excel at both national and international levels,” he said.
Indra also emphasized the readiness of BJKW IV Surabaya to continue supporting Udayana University and stakeholders in Bali through various competency-building programs. This support ranges from Building Information Modeling (BIM) training to certification testing for various construction workforce qualifications.
Meanwhile, the President Director of PT Semen Gresik, Gatot Mardiana, expressed his appreciation and gratitude to Udayana University and all parties who facilitated the *Jago Bangunan* (Master Builder) Training and Certification program.
Gatot stated that PT Semen Gresik focuses not only on business aspects but is also committed to delivering high-quality, eco-friendly products and contributing to various development projects across Indonesia.
“We are realizing this commitment through initiatives such as the *Jago Bangunan* Training and Certification program. This activity is part of our ongoing commitment that will continue to be implemented,” said Gatot.
He expressed hope that all participants would engage in the training and certification process with focus and dedication, enabling them to meet the required competency standards.
“I hope that all the *Jago Bangunan* participants here in Bali achieve a 100 percent pass rate,” he said.
