Gianyar – Udayana University held a commemorative journey retracing the path of King Udayana (*Napak Tilas*) to welcome its 64th anniversary on Thursday (August 27, 2026). This event is held annually leading up to the anniversary celebrations. Taking place on the auspicious full moon day of *Purnama Sasih Kapat*, the activity involved prayer rituals at several temples in the Gianyar Regency area, starting with Pura Gunung Kawi, followed by Pura Tirta Mengening, Pura Tirta Empul, and concluding at Pura Durghakutri.
Participants in this 64th-anniversary commemorative journey included the Rector, Vice-Rectors, Senate Chair, heads of institutions, faculty and postgraduate leadership, representatives of lecturers, staff, and students, heads of work units, the Udayana University Women’s Association (DWP Unud), and the anniversary organizing committee. The event aimed to seek blessings for safety and the smooth execution of all activities commemorating the anniversary, which will culminate on September 29, 2026.
The journey began with a visit to Pura Gunung Kawi, followed by visits to Pura Tirta Mengening, Pura Tirta Empul, and Pura Durghakutri. At each location, the Udayana University delegation performed communal prayers as an act of devotion and to pay homage to the historical and cultural heritage associated with King Udayana’s journey.
The event served not only as a spiritual journey but also as a means to honor the legacy of King Udayana, a pivotal figure in Balinese history. King Udayana is recognized for his significant role in shaping the social, religious, cultural, and governmental landscape of Bali during his reign.
The prayer rituals at each temple were conducted in a solemn atmosphere. The delegation participated in the procession with deep reverence, using the journey as an opportunity to offer prayers and seek guidance and smooth progress for Udayana University in fulfilling its mission of education, research, and community service.
This commemorative journey retracing the path of Prabu Udayana—held in conjunction with the university’s 64th anniversary—serves as a reflection on the institution’s own journey, which is inextricably linked to Bali’s historical and cultural roots.
