Jimbaran – The Rector of Udayana University officially opened the 2026 Gemilang Widyabhawana, part of the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) series of activities for Prabhu Udayana University 2026. The event took place at the Cricket Field on the Jimbaran Campus on Monday (July 27, 2026).
This activity is the first step in developing the character of new Udayana University students, ensuring they not only excel academically but also possess integrity, social awareness, and awareness of environmental sustainability.
In his remarks, Udayana University Rector, Prof. Ir. I Ketut Sudarsana, ST., Ph.D., stated that university life is a momentum to build character and prepare students to become a generation capable of making real contributions to society and the environment.
“Being a student is not just about acquiring knowledge, but also about building character, integrity, social awareness, and environmental responsibility,” said the Rector.
The Rector appreciated the holding of the 2026 Gemilang Widyabhawana, which raised the theme of waste management and sorting as an implementation of student values. He stated that the waste issue is a challenge that requires collective attention, especially in Bali, where environmental sustainability supports community life, culture, and tourism. Therefore, universities have a responsibility to produce graduates who possess not only academic competence but also ecological awareness.
He further stated that a graduate’s character is not only measured by academic achievement but also reflected in daily habits, such as disposing of and sorting waste according to type, reducing the use of single-use plastics, bringing their own tumblers and food containers, and reusing items that are still suitable for use. These simple habits are part of leadership that begins with oneself. Udayana University remains committed to building a Sustainable Campus that aligns with the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in the areas of responsible consumption and production and climate change mitigation.
Through this activity, students are expected to not only understand the concept of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle (3R) but also be able to apply it as part of their daily lifestyle, both on campus and in their respective residences. The Rector also encouraged students to utilize their studies as an opportunity to develop their potential through academic achievement, student organizations, innovation, and community service, enabling them to become agents of change for their surrounding environment.
At the conclusion of his remarks, the Rector expressed his appreciation to the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and staff, the Udayana University Student Executive Board, and the entire PKKMB Prabhu Udayana 2026 committee for their dedication in organizing educational, inspiring, and character-building activities for new students. The Rector hopes that the 2026 Gemilang Widyabhawana will be a momentum for the birth of Udayana University students who are outstanding, possess integrity, care for the environment, and are capable of becoming agents of change towards a green, sustainable, and global campus.
“Start with yourself, start with small things, start today. Let’s realize a clean, green, cultured, and sustainable Udayana University,” the Rector urged before officially opening the 2026 Gemilang Widyabhawana activities.
