DENPASAR – The increasingly rapid digital transformation has brought major changes in various aspects of life, including the practice and development of civil procedural law in Indonesia. This change was the main highlight in the National Seminar entitled “Challenges and the Future of Indonesian Civil Procedure Law in the Digital Era” which was organized by the Faculty of Law, Udayana University together with the Association of Civil Procedure Law Lecturers (ADHAPER) on Thursday, October 8 2026 at the Faculty of Law, Udayana University.

The national seminar was also the momentum for the launch of the book “14 Years of ADHAPER Work”, as well as a space for dialogue between academics, legal practitioners, judicial institutions and stakeholders to discuss the direction of development of civil procedural law amidst technological transformation.

This activity was attended by the Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Downstreaming at Udayana University who on this occasion represented the Chancellor of Udayana University, the Deputy Attorney General for Civil Affairs and State Administration as the keynote speaker, the Chairman of the Denpasar High Court, the Chair of ADHAPER, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Udayana University and his staff, and invited guests who were members of the Association of Lecturers in Civil Procedure Law (ADHAPER).

As Chair of the Association of Civil Procedure Law Lecturers (ADHAPER), Prof. Dr. Hj. Efa Laela Fakhriah, S.H., M.H. said that the development of digital technology requires the world of law, especially civil procedural law, to continue to adapt to various changes that occur in society. According to him, this national seminar forum is a strategic space for academics, practitioners and stakeholders to exchange ideas and formulate thoughts that can strengthen the development of Indonesian civil procedural law so that it remains responsive to technological advances, while at the same time being able to guarantee certainty, justice and legal protection for the community.

In his remarks, the Deputy Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Downstreaming at Udayana University, Prof. Dr. Gusti Ngurah Alit Susanta Wirya, S.P., M.Agr. emphasized that digital transformation not only changes the way people interact and transact, but also presents new challenges in resolving legal issues.

According to him, in the context of civil procedural law, digitalization is not solely related to the use of technology in the trial process. A more fundamental issue is how the law remains able to provide certainty, justice and protection when objects, evidence, processes and legal relationships increasingly take place in the digital space.

“It is not enough for us to just digitize existing processes. We also need to rethink whether the processes, approaches and legal framework we have are still adequate to answer the new realities presented by technology,” he stressed.

As a higher education institution that has a mandate in the fields of education, research and innovation, Udayana University views universities as having a strategic position in responding to legal developments in the digital era.

In this series of activities, the book “14 Years of ADHAPER Work” was also launched as part of a reflection on ADHAPER’s journey and contribution to the development of civil procedural law in Indonesia. The launch of this book is a momentum to document the ideas, thoughts and progress of academics and legal practitioners who for 14 years have contributed to strengthening the study and practice of civil procedural law. It is hoped that the presence of this book can become an academic reference as well as enrich the scientific knowledge of civil procedural law in facing various developments and challenges in the digital era.
