Jimbaran – Udayana University, through its Information Resources Unit (USDI), continues to strengthen digital transformation in higher education by hosting a workshop on the AI-powered Google Classroom Learning Management System (LMS) for its faculty members. Held on Friday (August 7, 2026) at the “Ruang Bangsa” (Nation Room) in the Rectorate Building at the Jimbaran Campus, this event reflects the university’s commitment to building an academic ecosystem that is adaptive, innovative, efficient, and digitally driven to support the *Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi* (Three Pillars of Higher Education). The workshop featured speakers from Google Indonesia—Kristiyanto (Customer Success Manager for Higher Education) and Ahmad Fikri Dzulfikar (Digital Transformation Lead K-12 and Community Manager)—as well as USDI’s own I Gusti Ayu Garnita Darmaputri, S.T., M.T. (Head of Data Security Section), with Ir. Komang Oka Saputra, S.T., M.T., Ph.D. serving as the moderator.

In his opening remarks, the Head of USDI Unud, Prof. Dr. Ir. I Made Sudarma, M.A.Sc., IPU., ASEAN.Eng., stated that technological advancements and the dynamic nature of higher education demand continuous transformation. Lecturers no longer merely deliver classroom material; they also manage research collaborations, mentor students, and handle academic administration—tasks that require high speed and efficiency.

“The AI-powered Google Classroom platform serves not merely as a digital work tool, but as a medium for limitless collaboration,” he said.

By integrating features such as Google Classroom, Docs, Drive, Meet, and Forms, we can enhance learning effectiveness, foster research collaboration, and improve administrative efficiency. Therefore, this training is designed not only to introduce the technical features but also to optimize best practices for their use in supporting the implementation of the *Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi* across the campus. On this occasion, the Head of USDI also shared updates regarding the strategic partnership with Google for Education. Currently, the entire Udayana University community—including lecturers, students, and administrative staff—has been granted licenses for Google Workspace for Education Plus, a paid edition offering a range of premium features. These licenses provide users with access to expanded Google Drive storage, Google Meet recording capabilities, advanced Google Classroom features, and various other premium services that facilitate the learning process and academic collaboration.

The adoption of Google Workspace services at Udayana University has also shown a positive trend. To date, the number of monthly active users across various Google Workspace services—such as Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Classroom—has reached approximately 21,000.

Meanwhile, the number of Google Classroom users within Udayana University stands at around 2,000 lecturers and teaching staff. Through this training, the university hopes to see this figure rise, encouraging more lecturers to utilize Google Classroom’s features to foster a learning process that is more effective, collaborative, and student-centered.

Regarding the use of AI technology, the adoption of Gemini and NotebookLM has also progressed. Currently, there are 3,099 Gemini users and 982 NotebookLM users within the Udayana University community. These platforms are expected to assist lecturers in preparing learning materials, designing course activities, developing teaching resources, and expediting the drafting of various academic documents.

As part of its commitment to developing an AI ecosystem on campus, Udayana University—through USDI and the AI Center—is collaborating with Google for Education to establish an AI Lab. This “tech corner” will be equipped with various hardware and software solutions from Google. The AI Lab is envisioned as a space for AI-driven collaboration and innovation, featuring a co-branding partnership between Udayana University and Google. Furthermore, USDI and the AI Center have collaborated with Google for Education to conduct the Gemini Academy training and certification program; this includes the Gemini Academy Fellow initiative, which invites lecturers to serve as agents of change in navigating Gemini AI-based learning.

In his closing remarks, he encouraged all participating lecturers to engage enthusiastically in the workshop, participate actively in discussions, explore the available features, and strengthen their digital competencies to prepare for the transformation of higher education in the era of artificial intelligence.

By holding this workshop, Udayana University reiterates its commitment to continue to bring digital innovation to the learning process while strengthening the capacity of human resources so that they are able to adapt to technological developments, so that they can produce graduates who are superior, adaptive, and ready to face future challenges.
