GIANYAR – A group of Udayana University Faculty of Law students achieved a remarkable achievement through the Sayan Village Development Impact Campus Program in 2026. During the four-month program, from March to July 2026, students achieved a record-breaking number of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and Business Identification Number (NIB) registrations compared to previous years of the Bina Desa program.
Themed “Empowering Local Arts and Traditions in Sayan Village Through Intellectual Property Rights Protection,” the program capitalizes on the immense potential of Sayan Village, Ubud District, Gianyar Regency, known as one of the centers of arts and culture in Bali. Sayan Village boasts a rich artistic heritage, including Sayan Style/Young Artists Style paintings, Sayan Batik, dance, and music. However, various works of art and creative products from the community still lack legal protection, making them vulnerable to misuse and claims by third parties.
Through the Bina Desa program, Udayana University Faculty of Law students provide community support to raise awareness of the importance of intellectual property protection while promoting business legality for MSMEs.
Several achievements were achieved during the program’s implementation, including the data collection and registration of 61 copyright works through independent schemes and in collaboration with BRIDA Gianyar Regency and BRIDA Bali Province. Furthermore, one Communal Intellectual Property (KIK) was successfully registered, in the form of the Traditional Cultural Expression *Laban Godel* belonging to the Penataran Banjar Kutuh Temple in Sayan Traditional Village.
In the business sector, students facilitated the registration of four personal trademarks and one collective trademark belonging to the Merah Putih Sayan Village Cooperative. Efforts to strengthen business legality also included assistance in the issuance of 41 Business Identification Numbers (NIB) for MSMEs in Sayan Village.
Not only focusing on legal and creative economy aspects, this program also presents various community empowerment activities, including assistance with reporting to the Legal Aid Post (Posbankum) to the Bali Provincial Ministry of Law Regional Office, outreach on diabetes, bullying, and drug abuse prevention for students at Sayan Elementary Schools 1, 2, and 4, and participation in the digitization of population data through the development of the Sayan Village Website.
The success of the Sayan Village Development 2026 Impact Campus Program is the result of a multi-stakeholder collaboration between Udayana University and the Sayan Village Government, Sayan Traditional Village, Penestanan Traditional Village, BRIDA Gianyar Regency, BRIDA Bali Province, the Bali Provincial Ministry of Law Regional Office, the Gianyar Regency Industry and Trade Office, the Culture Office, the Gianyar Regency National Narcotics Agency (BNN), the Gianyar Regency Regional Children’s Forum, and the Gianyar Regency Planning Generation Forum (GenRe).
The series of activities officially concluded with the 2026 Sayan Village Development Appreciation and Closing Night, held on July 8, 2026. This event served as a platform for submitting an accountability report on program implementation and a token of appreciation to all partners and the Sayan Village community for their support and active participation throughout the program.
Through the Village Development Impact Campus Program, Udayana University continues to demonstrate its commitment to implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, providing tangible benefits to the community. Assistance with intellectual property protection, strengthening business legality, and empowering the community in Sayan Village is expected to encourage the preservation of local cultural heritage while enhancing the competitiveness of the village’s creative economy.
