Jakarta – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdiktisaintek) held the 2026 Public Relations and Protocol Coordination Meeting (Rakor) at the Purnomo Prawiro Multipurpose Hall, University of Indonesia, Wednesday (3/6/2026). This activity was attended by representatives of public relations and protocols from State Universities (PTN), Higher Education Service Institutions (LLDikti), as well as work units within the Ministry of Education and Technology. Udayana University also plays an active role in this Public Relations and Protocol Coordination Meeting. The 2026 Public Relations and Protocol Coordination Meeting was held as a strategic forum to strengthen synergy, increase capacity, and align the direction of public communication in higher education in Indonesia. This activity is also part of the Ministry of Education and Technology’s efforts to strengthen the branding of the Impactful Education and Technology policy, improve public relations and protocol competencies, and socialize the 2026 Diktisaintek Public Relations Award and the 2026 Diktisaintek Protocol Award.
This Public Relations and Protocol Coordination Meeting was opened by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Wamendiktisaintek), Prof. Fauzan emphasized that higher education is currently facing big challenges and opportunities amidst rapid global changes. In this context, universities are required not only to produce quality graduates, but also to provide solutions to various societal problems through innovation, research and service. Universities are considered to have an increasingly strategic role as centers of innovation, drivers of social transformation, as well as strengthening the nation’s competitiveness.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister of Education and Technology said that various higher education achievements that have an impact on society need to be communicated more strongly and strategically so that the benefits can be widely understood by the public. Deputy Minister Fauzan also emphasized the importance of crisis communication skills in the digital era. According to him, the role of higher education public relations is becoming increasingly strategic because it is no longer just conveying information, but rather building a narrative that is able to explain the real contribution of campuses to nation building. Effective public communication is needed to bridge the various achievements of higher education with the needs and understanding of society.
Meanwhile, the Acting Secretary General (Plt. Sesjen) of the Ministry of Education and Technology, Badri Munir Sukoco, in his report said that the increasingly complex challenges of public communication require the public relations and protocol functions to continue to adapt. Public relations and protocols, according to him, have an important role in building public trust, maintaining the reputation of institutions, and ensuring that government policies can be properly understood and accepted by the public.
Daily Executive (Plh.) Chancellor of the University of Indonesia, Ahmad Gamal stated that public relations and protocols are an important part of institutional governance in a rapidly changing public communications landscape.
The 2026 Public Relations and Protocol Coordination Meeting was attended by around 350 participants from PTN, 17 LLDikti, as well as implementers of public relations functions within the Ministry of Education and Technology. During the activity, participants received various materials regarding higher education public communication, research and innovation communication, crisis communication, public relations transformation in the era of artificial intelligence (AI), and strengthening protocol functions with resource persons from leaders at the Ministry of Education and Technology, BPMI, the Information Commission, then Crisis Communication Experts and Protocol Experts as well as leading PTN Public Relations.
