HISTORY

The Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is a study program successfully initiated and established by the Department of Behavioural Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University as one of the 27 departments of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University. The existence of psychology in the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University began to develop before 1980 and was formalized with the Department of Behavioral Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine of Udayana University as the forum. Since then, the Department of Behavioural Sciences as part of the Faculty of Medicine of Udayana University has run its core activities of the Three Pillars of Higher Education, including Education, Research and Development of Science and Community Service in the field of psychology.

In terms of community service activities, the Department of Behavioural Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University had considerable experience in addressing the needs of society in the field of psychological consultation. The Department of Behavioural Sciences of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is the pioneer of psychological services in Bali. Its devotion to psychological counseling services have been running for more than 20 years and each faculty has been practicing psychology professionally. Therefore, experience gained by this department was highly varied. Thus, it is expected that the establishment of the Psychology Study program will also enrich the existing psychological counseling services as a form of noble devotion to society in Bali Bali in particular and in Indonesia in general.

The psychology Study program was officially established on 6 February 2009 pursuant to the Decree of the Directirate General of Higher Education, Department of National Education Number: 137/D/T/2009. This study program was initiated by the faculty staff of the Behavioral Sciences Department of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University that later also served as the team that developed the Psychology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University. The establishment of this study program aims to answer or meet the need scholars in Psychology in Bali and its surrounding area. In establishing this Psychology Study program, all the academicians of Udayana University, particularly the team which initiated the Psychology Study Program, has noble objectives for human resources or graduates of the Psychology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University which later will have quite high academic abilities and be innovative and productive in providing psychological services to the community, be able to understand and apply the professional attitude, have much knowledge, understand and develop the concepts of psychology comprehensively as well as be able to perform and develop a research design that  will provides benefits for society.

These objectives of the Psychology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University are stated in its vision, missions and objectives. The Vision of the Psychology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is to be a higher education institution that generates human resources that are superior, independent and cultured in an attempt to develop and implement psychology among society that can compete at the national and international levels. To empower the Psychology Study Program as a higher education institution that carries out the activities of education, research and community service at the national and international levels based on science and technology as well as culture in accordance with the demand of society is the mission of the Psychology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University. While the purpose of the Psychology Study Program of Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is to be a quality higher education institution and generate graduates who apply the professional attitude and can compete at the national and international levels, as well as a higher education institution that is able to develop research and community service based on the development of science and technology and cultural values ​​in accordance with the demands of society openly, creative, innovative, and productive.

In terms of the curriculum, the Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University develops the same curriculum as the curriculum applied by other psychology study programs in other public universities in Indonesia, by referring to the results of the 17th Indonesian Psychology Colloquium held in Semarang in 2007. The curriculum of the Psychology Study Program developed by the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is the field of psychology with the nuance of health. In addition, the Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University also develops other branches of psychology of expertise, namely Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Industrial Psychology, Organizational Psychology, and Educational Psychology. These five areas of expertise are taught in the core courses (77 credits, 71 credits of psychology courses and six credits of thesis), the compulsory local courses (53 credits) and the elective local courses (14 credits of 40 credits available). Therefore, the students of the Psychology Study Program should take a minimum 144 credits, with the length of study of + 4 years and the academic title of Bachelor of Psychology (S.Psi). As for the teaching and learning system which will be applied in the Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University is the credit system using student-centered approaches based on competencies.

Finally, with the formulation of the handbook on the Psychology Study Program, it is expected that the implementation of the Three Pillars of Higher Education carried out by the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University can take place in an orderly fashion and smoothly and answer all the need of the elements of the Faculty particularly and Udayana University in general, and contribute to the development and progress of the whole society of nation.

Pursuant to the Decree issued by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education Number: 227/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/XI/2013, it is stated that the Undergraduate Psychology Study Program of Udayana University is accredited as follows:

Accredited “B”, valid for another 5 (five) years since 09 November 2013 to 09 November 2018

Vision Mission Psychology

VISION:

To make the Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University an education institution that can generate superior, independent, and cultured graduates to develop and implement psychology among society and can compete at the national and international levels by the year of  2019.

MISSIONS:

a. General Missions

To empower the Psychology Study Program of the Faculty of Medicine at Udayana University as a higher education institution that implements the Three Pillars of Higher Education based on development in terms of science and technology as well as cultural values.

b. Special Missions

  1. To encourage the activities of education, research and community service at the national and international levels, based on a high level of science and technology, culture, morality, and integrity in accordance with the demand of society.
  2. To establish an independent and professional study program in terms of the institutional management and development with good corporate governance.
