Insertion of Secret Messages in Images on the Android-Based Image Sharing Applications by Advanced Least Significant Bit Method (ALSB)

Image sharing application is an application that is widely used today, where the application is used in everyday activities for a variety of purposes, whether for business, work, or personal purposes. Easy application usage allows all ages to use it. Users take photos from the camera on their smartphone, then the photo is uploaded on the image sharing applications. Due to its many uses, it can be used to communicate confidentially by inserting a secret message into a photo uploaded, without causing suspicion. The insertion of messages into the photo is done by steganography, which is a method to hide messages to container media. In this study, the container media used was in the form of photos, and messages inserted in the form of text. The steganographic algorithm used is Advanced Least Significant Bit (ALSB), an algorithm that inserts a message by replacing the bits in the cover photo with bits in the message. The insertion of the message is uploaded on the built application, where the secret message inserted in the uploaded photo can only be opened by the recipient user of the message. Based on the tests that have been done, the inserted images do not change the size of the image file, and experience a very small change in quality, as indicated by a low value of Mean Squared Error (MSE) (0) with MSE mean of 0.03, and high value of Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR) with an average of 74.93. The results of the message integrity test was also performed, where the same MD5 results between the initial message and the extracted message showed that the message received intactly to the recipient without undergoing changes after the insertion and extraction process.
