PATTERNS OF NAUSEA AND VOMITING THERAPY IN PREGNANCY BY OBSTETRICIAN AND GYNECOLOGIST AND MIDWIVES IN DENPASAR

Nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (NVP) is one of cause of high morbidity of pregnant women that definitive therapy has not yet been known. NVP with severe symptom is called Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG). Aim of this study was to know patterns of nausea and vomiting therapy in pregnancy by obstetrician and midwives in Denpasar. This study took place at Obstetrician and gynecologist and midwifery in Denpasar which were chosen by simple random sampling. The population was all of pregnant women with NVP who visited a private practice of Obstetrician and midwifery in Denpasar in the period of January to May 2014. The design was cross-sectional study with a sample selection used total sampling and sample number was 88 of pregnant women. Data were collected from medical records and transferred to research form and analyzed descriptively. In general, proportion of pharmacotherapy that was given by medical practitioner to the NVP patient is higher (70.5%) than non-pharmacotherapy (29.5%) that dominated by vitamin B6. All of HG patients were given pharmacotherapy. Vitamin B6 (56.5%) was the most dominant pharmacotherapy type that was chosen. Obstetrician dominant chosed serotonin inhibitor and midwives chosed vitamin B6. It is concluded that pharmacotherapy was dominant choice in the NVP treatment that was dominated by vitamin B6. All of HG patients were given pharmacotherapy. It is recommended to conduct further research with a more period and sampling to know condition of NVP therapy and pharmacotherapy chosen by Obstetrician and midwifery to treat NVP.
