Bronchial carcinoma is the most common cancer in the western world, and is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, of which about 32% of all cancer deaths in men and 25% in woman.1 In the United States it causes more deaths than colon, breast and prostate cancer all together 2. In the survey of the improvements in cancer survival in the UK recently, bronchial carcinoma showed the smallest decrease in percentage in the number of deaths between 1981-1990 (0.2%). Compared to the breast (11% reduction) and melanoma (32%). Overall 5-year survival for lung cancer diagnosed between 1986-1990 is only 5.3% (compared with 66% to 76% for breast and melanoma). This becomes the background work for radiologists in detecting, diagnosing, overview, and a review of this cancer.
