The committee has 30 members from broad ranges of background, i.e. innovators, academics, entrepreneurs, etc. The objective of the committee is to strengthen national innovation system and to assist the President in improving national innovation culture. The innovation programs are including national food security, energy safety, biotechnology, transportation system, etc.

KIN is headed by Zuhal, then vice head is Herry Suhardiyanto who is Rector of IPB. Its secretary is Freddy Permana Zen with members are Sangkot Marzuki, Sahari Besari, Ninok Leksono, Umar A. Jenie, Marzan A Iskandar, Idwan Suhardi, Lukman Hakim, Bustanul Arifin, Amir Sambodo, Rachmat Gobel, Ilham A Habibie, Tien Muchtadi, Anton Apriyantono, Arief Rahman, Jusman Syafii Djamal, Bambang Kesowo, Betti S. Alisjahbana, Tri Mumpuni Wiyatno, Rector of UI, ITB, UGM, ITS, Unhas, Syah Kuala, Cendrawasih, Pattimura, and Rector of Udayana University.
